Traditional smartphones’ slim top bezel houses a variety of sensors, such as the ambient light sensor and proximity sensor, but not the front camera. The front camera is large enough that it cannot fit in that space. As a result, manufacturers had to adopt the punch-hole design for the camera, and anyone who cares about image quality still makes a hole in the premium display panel to this day.
