Google announced a new, more secure way to log in to Google accounts on the eve of World Password Day. The Mountain View-based company is now introducing passkey support for Google accounts.
The company officially announced its work on passkey support on May 5, 2022, after a year of development. Google isn’t the only one in the game; Microsoft, Apple, and the FIDO Alliance are also involved. Passkeys are thought to be more secure than passwords and SMS one-time codes because they are less vulnerable to threats such as phishing.
