In iOS 17, iMessage will treat Android users in group chats differently. Unfortunately, iPhone users will have a better experience than Android users. It’s possible that Apple will make more changes in future iOS 17 beta releases. There are a few changes in the first beta of iOS 17 that work for iPhone users within an iMessage group chat. However, these features are not yet available on the Android platform. In other words, Apple is working hard to alleviate the pains of iMessage and Android interoperability for its own users, similar to what Google is doing with its own Messages app.
