While some of the offerings in the Samsung app ecosystem are quite useful, others have similar functionality to Google’s suite of apps, making them somewhat redundant. Samsung Free is one of these services, which has been available on Samsung Galaxy devices for some time but has received little traction.
The app previously provided access to live TV, news, games, and podcasts. The Samsung News app, which appears to be in beta right now, has only three bottom bar icons labelled News, Podcasts, and Following. The News tab displays a selection of content curated by Samsung’s media partners. Bloomberg, USA Today, Sports Illustrated, Politico, The New York Post, The Daily Beast, and other publications.
