Android Weekend Roundup: Samsung’s Android 17 Rollout Widens as Googlebook Finally Works With Galaxy Phones

A quieter weekend still delivered real progress for Android users. Samsung’s Android 17-based One UI 9 update has reached a wider set of Galaxy phones and tablets, and Google has started switching on the Galaxy phone support Googlebook owners have been waiting for. A next-gen Google TV Streamer leak, an unofficial port of the Pixel 11’s Rambler voice typing and a new Google Wallet ID state round out the day.

Update: Samsung’s One UI 9 Rollout Reaches More Galaxy Devices, With the S23 Likely Next

Samsung’s Android 17 update is now on a noticeably longer list of devices. According to 9to5Google’s running tracker, the Galaxy S26 series has One UI 9, the S25 series is rolling out more widely, and the S25 FE, S25 Edge, S24 series, Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, Z Flip 7 FE, Z TriFold, Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6 and Galaxy A57 are in limited, staged availability in parts of the world.

The Galaxy S23, S23+ and S23 Ultra look to be next. Sammy Fans reported on Sunday that the update is expected soon, but the suggested start date early this week comes from a tipster, not Samsung, which still hasn’t published an official schedule. S23 owners should treat the timing as unconfirmed and keep an eye on Settings > Software update.

Googlebook’s Better Together Features Now Work With Samsung Galaxy Phones

Google has begun rolling out fixes to Googlebook’s Android phone integration, including a simpler first-time setup with fewer steps and a fix for a pairing QR code that stayed on screen after setup was done. Better Together covers app streaming, notification sync and Continue On handoff between phone and laptop.

The bigger news for many buyers is Samsung support, which was missing at launch. Galaxy owners on Reddit now report the features working. There’s a catch: the phone needs Android 17, which for Samsung means One UI 9, along with Google Play services 26.37 or later and Cross-device services 1.0.1346 or later. In other words, Googlebook’s Galaxy support moves at the pace of the One UI 9 rollout above.

Leak: Google Is Working on a Next-Gen Google TV Streamer

A successor to the Google TV Streamer is in development, according to 9to5Google, with microphones, presence sensing and a new remote among the reported features. Google has not announced the device, so every detail should be treated as unconfirmed for now.

Built-in microphones and presence sensing would point to a box that acts more like a smart-home hub, responding to voice and reacting when someone walks into the room. In a weekend column, 9to5Google noted the sequel arrives while Google’s smart-home hardware strategy is under pressure from new competition.

Pixel 11’s Rambler Voice Typing Gets an Unofficial Port to Other Android Phones

An independent developer has released PixelBoard, a modified build of Gboard that unlocks Rambler, the AI voice-to-text feature limited to the Pixel 11 series and Googlebook. Rather than transcribing word for word, Rambler tidies grammar and formatting and strips out filler words. 9to5Google tried the mod on a Galaxy Z Fold 8 and found it behaved much like it does on a Pixel 11.

PixelBoard is distributed through GitHub for sideloading, not the Play Store, and it is not a Google release. Modified apps carry security and stability risks, so most users should wait; Google hasn’t said whether Rambler will officially reach other phones.

Google Wallet Digital IDs Add Oklahoma

Oklahoma now appears on Google’s list of US states supporting digital state IDs in Google Wallet on Android, with rollout starting in October 2026, according to 9to5Google’s updated availability guide. Ohio support began rolling out in September.

Digital IDs let Android users keep a driver’s license or state ID on their phone for use at participating locations. Each new state makes Wallet a more practical everyday alternative to a physical card, though carrying the physical ID is still wise wherever digital IDs aren’t accepted.

Bottom Line

The two stories that matter most this weekend are linked: One UI 9’s expansion decides when millions of Galaxy owners get Android 17, and that same update now unlocks Googlebook’s phone features for Samsung users. The Google TV Streamer leak and the Rambler port are worth watching, but neither is something most Android users can act on today.

Coming up: OnePlus has set the OnePlus 16’s China launch for October 12, and Google has confirmed a Fitbit Edge announcement for the same day. We’ll cover both once official details are out.
