There’s a Mysterious App on Your Phone Called “Android Pulse” – Here’s What It Actually Does
A previously invisible Google system app called Android Pulse began appearing as a manual Play Store update around August 21-22, 2026, alarming users with a blank app icon and a dense, jargon-heavy description. It’s a legitimate first-party Google app, already installed on over 10 million devices since at least March 2026, that monitors apps and Android system processes for unusual resource consumption – battery drain, excessive memory use, or abnormal CPU activity. On Pixel devices it’s labeled simply “Pulse” with a heart-rate-inspired green icon. The app can’t be manually installed or removed since it’s a system-level component, and its sudden visibility appears tied to Google’s broader strategy of distributing smaller Android components through Google Play services rather than full OS updates.
Nothing OS 5.0 Officially Arrives Today – Here’s Everything Android 17 Brings to Nothing’s Phones
Nothing OS 5.0, based on Android 17, began rolling out today, August 25, at 11:00 AM BST. The update inherits Android 17’s native desktop mode with free-form floating windows, layered under Nothing’s own overhaul: a system-wide Geist Mono font update, redesigned volume sliders, expanded lock screen widget stacking, upgraded on-device AI utilities, and an enhanced Nothing Warp Sharing feature enabling drag-and-drop file transfers across Nothing OS, macOS, Windows, and Linux. The update is expected to reach devices from the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus and CMF Phone 2 Pro onward, though the Nothing Phone (1), Nothing Phone (2), and CMF Phone 1 are officially excluded, having already reached the end of their promised major-update cycles. This year’s announcement arrives roughly three weeks earlier than last year’s Nothing OS 4.0 reveal.
Google’s August Play System Update Is Now Actually Landing on Galaxy Phones
Google’s August 2026 Google Play System Update, first detailed on August 10, has now begun actually rolling out to Samsung Galaxy devices as an 80-81MB OTA update. The release spans Play services v26.30 through v26.32, bringing Google Wallet pass improvements, new developer account management tooling, an upgraded Quick Start device setup flow, and new Cross Device Services beta settings. Play Store v52.6, released alongside it, adds Exploratory Entertainment Search for movies and TV shows, sports-specific discovery carousels starting with the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, search history normalization, and faster app details access from Top Charts on tablets and foldables. Galaxy users can check for the update under Settings > Security & privacy > Updates > Google Play system update.
